Dr. Tom Fuqua
Dr. Fuqua graduated from Auburn University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1977. After graduation, he served two years in the U.S. Army where he was stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland; there he was responsible for running the veterinary hospital on post.
Upon completion of his tour of duty in the Army in 1979, he returned home to Alabama to open his first veterinary practice: Westwood Animal Hospital in the Forestdale area. His love of animals and his passion for veterinary medicine was apparent during his twenty years there. He was a fixture in the community where he raised his family and was well thought of, both personally and professionally.
After selling his practice in 1998, he spent a few years at Standifer Animal Hospital in Homewood and a couple of years at Britt Animal Hospital in Cahaba Heights before getting the desire once again to own his own practice. He started looking for the right opportunity to open another clinic and found it in Gardendale, Alabama. Mercy Animal Hospital opened in October 2008. Mercy was a huge success and Dr. Fuqua was proud to be a part of that. He practiced at Mercy for about five years before selling the practice to his younger partners. After leaving Mercy, he practiced at Stewart Animal Hospital in Warrior for two years until Dr. Steward sold the practice to a veterinary practice corporation.
He still loves veterinary medicine, and considers it more of a calling than a profession. While he wants to cut back his work schedule some in order to have more time with family, he feels blessed to be able to come to work and do something he is so passionate about. His Christian faith and love of family pretty much define who he is.
He is excited to join the staff of All Creatures Pet Hospital and eager to learn what the next chapter in his career holds!
